Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 12/22/2021

Number: 23

I failed to cut back my milkweed this Fall and Monarchs laid eggs again. I brought all plants in garage to try to save caterpillars. They have denuded my 5 milkweed plants and are munching on ground up butternut squash. Half of caterpillars have formed cocoons in the last two days and the rest are close behind. Most have attached to my pineapple plants which I relocated to garage. When they develop into monarchs I will make available nectar type fruits for them to eat until I can release them. I understand it needs to be at least 50 degrees outside. This is a first for me and so miraculous, documenting each stage with photos and videos.
