On December 21, 2021 I collected 15 monarch caterpillars off of my Mexican milkweed plant in my garden. They were 3/4 of an inch long at a time. The plant they were on was nearly bare since it had dropped some leaves during 33 to 34° temperatures on two successive nights. our temperatures were in the 70s and 80s for a week there after and anticipating more cold weather and lack of food for them to feed off of, I dug up a full sized milkweed plant from the garden where my original plant came from with plenty of leaves and flowers on it. I transferred that into my sunny southern dining room where I now have 14 Chrysalises.
I will soon transfer the plants with all of the chrysalis is into a friends greenhouse where they will hopefully emerge and feed upon for milkweed plants that are ready and waiting for them in the greenhouse.
