Monarch, Captive-Reared

Date: 01/12/2022

Number: 1

Just released our 51st captive-reared Monarch. We use an enclosed habitat to ward off the predatory brown lizards which abound here. We release when we have at least 3 days of temperature above 60F. Over 2018 and 2019 we observed that 1 or 2 of every 5 caterpillars made it from egg to fly-away because of the lizards. With the habitat we have only lost 3 of 54 and that due to OE from donated leaf stock. There are 5 crysalis currently waiting hatch and another five days before warmup.
