Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 06/05/2021

Number: 3

Three monarchs were born today & released the following day ~ one male & two females. This is a photo of the two females as they prepared for first flight. Thankfully, they took a few minutes to nectar and get their bearings ~ giving me a few precious moments to appreciate them.

This was a special day as these were the last of the monarchs that I had reared indoors this spring. All of them had developed from caterpillars brought in from Asclepias viridis milkweed in our pastures. The total was 42 monarchs born ~ 20 males & 22 females. Hoping they have good journeys and find plenty of nectar & milkweed!
