Robin (WAVE seen)
Sightings report image

Date: 01/22/2022

Number: 5

Two days ago (1/20/2022) we reported our first sighting of Robins for 2022.   Yesterday (no report filed) we saw four.

Today, by 11 AM, we had spotted at least five Robins at one time.   There are probably more than that as they fly from tree to tree, both in our yard and up the street by our neighbors.   (How many Robins are necessary to count as a "wave"?)

The Robins are occasionally joined by various sparrows and black birds (grackles, starlings, blackbirds? - not sure which as I'm not an ornithologist).

They all appear to be eating the fruits on the ornamental pear trees that line the streets of our development.   I doubt these would be their first choice for snacking, but that's about all that's apparently available currently around here.

The ground is still mostly covered with snow.   The low last night was -3°F.   By 10 AM it had risen to about 10°F.   The high today is forecast to be 23°F.   It seems like feathers are much better insulators than my thermal underwear.   Brrrr.

We currently have calm, clear blue skies with a dewpoint of 1°F, 73% humidity, and the air pressure is 30.35 inches.
