Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 12/04/2021

Number: 3

Since the beginning of December a pair of monarchs laid 100 eggs on my 5 milkweed plants. Between 4 of us we collected the caterpillars and they are distributed between 7 large cages. Currently I have 40 in chrysalises and 10 more still eating and forming J’s. There are about 70 others in cages in this same area. Wondering if releasing them all in this area is sustainable. My understanding is these are not migratory monarchs, they remain as residents here in Florida. We have planted both native and tropical milkweed which they seem to prefer. I included a photo of the wasp who is a big predator of the caterpillars on our milkweed.
