Sightings report image

Date: 02/04/2022

Number: 1

This is first year in 12 years a Rufous hummingbirds didn't over winter-(in 2021.) We are having same freezing weather sinerio this month of Feb.3-5th, 2022, as was did in Feb 17-20th, 2021. We do have power this time for 3 day jet stream event again. No power in 2021 for 3 days then.
Warblers go to all feeders we keep out. The south side Christmas bulb hung feeder in photo didn't freeze. Last night we got a 13 degree wind chill in 26 low. Two other Perkey pet feeders are wrapped in bubble wrap. One feeder hung on north side does not have a heat source, did get a little solid. Sugar water didn't freeze in photo just got a heavy liquid- it's hung on south side. Sane type heat source west hung feeder didnt freeze either.
Last years Rufous was trying to poke in port hole of frozen north side no heat feeder. He went to the two other heated feeders quickly, and through out day till dusk.
Male rubythroats, Rufous
Will be migrating back soon here in la nina. As it looks like rubythroats are migrating back early as seen in Florida reports. We could keep feeders wrapped for them in these cold snaps.
