I noticed this monarch caterpillar last week. He has been clinging to a bare milkweed stalk. He's alive; he moves his head and feelers. The temperatures have been between 35 and 60. Nights most recently have been around 40.
I'm guessing he's trying to ride out the winter, maybe will become active when it warms?
