Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 03/02/2022

Number: 2

It was relayed to me yesterday 2 Rufous males at friends feeder in the Woodlands suburb of Houston. About 7 miles from me. Friend and brother went to annual Whooping crane event in Port Aransas, Mustang island with no hummingbirds arriving there yet.

Have not seen ours yet.

Note: We have no flowers blooming again like last year's (2021) 17 degree snow and freeze out. This year wind chill wiped out flowers in 22 degrees. Purple salvias didn't freeze to ground this year so are barely getting leaves. No nectar flowers in nurseries yet. We drug in potted purple salvias, purple porterweed,
coral porterweed 6 times bc of weekly 4 day freezes the whole winter here. They are
not blooming either. But hopefully hummingbirds will find feeders again.

Texas had widespread snow, cold winter 2022 to freeze native flowers, but bluebonnets are coming up now to help out situation again.
