With exceptionally strong southwesterly winds from U.S.A. on Sunday, one killdeer plover was heard in the small hamlet of Vernonville, Ontario, and also further north in the community of Roseneath. Daytime temperatures rose to about 55 F. Sadly, freezing temperatures returned on Sunday night, with some snowfall on Monday. These birds may have been blown into Ontario, well in advance of there being an available food supply. Killdeer eat insects, and right now, there are none here.
