Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 03/22/2022

Number: 3

Last evening and through the night we had strong thunderstorms, including tornado warnings. Lots of wind, thunder, lightning ~ and 3 inches of heavy rainfall. So monarchs (and all creatures) would have had a challenging night.

Today it was bright and windy and cool. I saw 3 monarchs. Two seemed to be females looking for milkweed, traveling low over the grass, back and forth. Unfortunately, the milkweed has not emerged yet for the most part. (I found one sprout two days ago.)

At 4:30pm I saw a male monarch nectaring on a yellow thistle. It was 65 degrees F, partly cloudy, winds 16 mph from the NW, and 49% humidity. He had found a good nectar plant to replenish from on this blustery day. He had a bit of a torn wing, but flew fine and looked hearty. So good to see these monarchs!
