We first heard a robin about a week before this. (I posted an entry the first time I heard it.) It turned out to be a very healthy male robin who was happy to get both the live and dried mealworms I put out. When what I thought was a female appeared on the 24th, he shared the feeding tray I put out. But the female has turned out to be so hostile that no other birds have a chance to eat. I’m wondering if it’s an atypically colored male, given the extreme aggressiveness. This bird will pursue other birds as long as they’re in sight and trying to put out additional food in other parts of the yard has been pointless. It regards any food source as its exclusive property. We’ve come to regard it as the Vladimir Putin of robins.
