The monarchs were active today & also the first monarch larvae were seen. This morning I saw multiple monarchs flying around, nectaring, and resting/sunning. It was 61 degrees F and sunny.
I made an afternoon trip to Montgomery 7 miles to our east & saw at least 7 monarchs on the way (not added to count).
Around 4pm, it was 75 degrees F, winds 7mph from the NW, with 25% humidity. Everything was buzzing with spring activity: birds, beetles, bees, and butterflies. I observed 12+ monarchs: females looking for milkweed, while males sailed around patrolling and nectaring.
I was following one female as she fluttered slowly checking milkweed to lay eggs on, when she was swooped down upon by a male monarch. This is a photo of them in the grass as a mated pair.
