I went out from 10:30-11:30am to check on milkweed and see what was happening in the meadows. The grass was wet with dew, it was 70 degrees F, cloudy, soft breezes from the E, with 87% humidity. At that time I saw 9 individual monarchs. I followed three females as they searched for milkweed to lay their eggs on.
I saw plenty of fresh milkweed and often there were eggs on the milkweed that I looked at. At times in my walking about I disturbed a monarch resting in the grass.
Later at 12:30pm, it was 73 degrees F, cloudy with light rain spritzing at times, soft breezes, with 81% humidity. I saw multiple egg-laying females ~ this time in our upper pasture, front yard area, and nearby ditches. I saw both males and females nectaring from wildflowers and resting/sunning at times.
This is a photo of one of the females as she sips nectar from an Indian paintbrush ~ then she went on looking for milkweed.
