The tulips emerged on a beautiful, sunny day in Edmonton, 22 degrees celsius. The bed was covered in straw for the winter and a week prior we pushed the straw back to find a layer of frozen ice underneath. The tulips were up 10 days earlier than last year. It has been a very inconsistent spring with big temperature swings. Eg. today is 20 degrees cooler. It can be very warm one day and snowing the next which isn't uncommon for Edmonton. It was a cold and long winter but we had some warm stretches in March that sped up the melting.
