At 11:10am it was 65 degrees F, sunny, wind 15mph from the N, with 30% humidity. Very gusty wind! I observed monarchs sailing around, nectaring, resting/sunning, and multiple females egg-laying. One monarch I spotted high, high in the sky (almost not visible) flying east ~ definitely traveling.
I saw monarchs throughout the day. Often nectaring on the thistles and wildflowers ~ being a dry & windy day they especially needed the hydration.
At 3:20pm it was 74 degrees F, sunny, winds 18mph from the NW, with 17% humidity. As I went briefly about, there were again multiple monarchs seen. I started to follow a female as she was checking milkweed plants. She was spotted by a male, who was able to make a capture quickly and they became a mated pair. I will add their photo to a Monarch (Other Observations) report.
This photo is of a female monarch as she lays an egg on a milkweed sprout this morning. She and another female were laying eggs near each other ~ very strong winds blowing everything about ~ they showed their flying skills!
