Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/16/2022

Number: 1

We’re shocked, it’s 35 degrees, there’s a slight touch of snow in the air, and at 5:45 PM an “Early Bird” hummingbird appeared at our south window (where there’s usually a feeder) during our hosting seasons.

It’s our habit to place feeders outside (April 23) which is two weeks before their traditional arrival dates: May 6th or May 8th.

So, our earliest feeder (ever) is positioned outside with big, red, velvet, bows (saved from Christmas wreaths) as a beacon for any “Early Bird”. (s) As hummers can see the color red from 1 mile away.
