Monarch Waystation #271 reports the sighting of a male ruby-throated hummingbird feeding on the native Wild Columbine blooms in the front yard at 10:05 am this date. I was checking the status of some transplanted seedlings when it appeared, and we both stayed in place for a moment to assess each other, then the bird nectared at 2 neighboring plants in the front bed about 3 feet away from me. It then took off westward and flew out of sight around the edge of the building. I didn't have a camera with me at that time. My suspicion that at least one hummingbird was in the area came from the fact that the Columbines have been pouring out blooms like crazy for the last 2 weeks, and a dozen or more began going to seed. Glad my suspicion was finally confirmed with this sighting.
