Barn Swallow (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/26/2022

Number: 2

Since we moved here in 1987 and up into the early 2000s, we used to get 12-14 nests in our barn. Each would have two broods. In the last 5-6 years the number of birds returning has been fewer & fewer each year. Two summers ago we only had one brood per nest (instead of the usual two). Last year we only had 4 nests and only two of those had a second brood.

A sad observation. What can we do as caretakers of their barn ?
