One flew to the top of a wire deer fence (used for my dig), followed by another. Both skittled along the fence, until they saw the dog, then flew to safety in the nearby apple tree - about 7:00 a.m. Gave me the impression that the second bird was chasing the first.

At 4:30, there was a pair near each other on the ground, in the same area as earlier. One was eating, while the other was watching.
