Monarch Waystation #271 reports sighting monarch eggs scattered on the Purple Milkweeds in the front bed. A casual May Day tally of only this bed found 22 eggs on terminal flower buds and 2 eggs on one of the leaves near the top of one stalk [see photo]. This milkweed's leaves appear wrinkled because its stalk grew through a cluster of pine cones. Purple milkweed leaves are normally broadly flat and become leathery as they enlarge and mature.
