This general location has been the subject of approximately previous 34 Journey North reports over the past two (2) winter seasons (see link below).
A specific area within this large WMA appears to be a significant inland wild Monarch and Queen overwintering site.
On this date, 14 May 2022, I slowly went straight down the gravel road for 6.6 miles. In 2 hours, 15 minutes I cleanly counted at least 24 Monarchs.
They looked fresh. This is likely a small percentage of the actual number of Monarchs in this large WMA.
Photographed both wild Asclepias perennis and A. tuberosa in bloom. I included a photo of a Monarch on A. perennis in the swamp.
