This gorgeous male arrived May 10, two days earlier than I'd seen one last year, and 8 days earlier than 2020. Each year I've put a feeder out earlier than the years before. This guy is truly tiny, especially compared to the females who arrived about 3 days later. So far, I know for sure that I have one male, and two females who are frequenting the feeders. Of course there could be more birds, but they aren't wearing name tags, and I've been so busy planting their favorite flowers that I haven't had much time to study their identifiable behavioral habits. Last year, I only had one male for the first two weeks, and then none until the fledgelings' gorgets started to mature and identified them as first year males. I figured I likely had 3-5 females who were frequent visitors. I have never had the swarms of birds at my feeders that others have and I envy.
