Milkweed Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 05/21/2022

The first opened whorled milkweed flower clusters were observed today and likely began opening flowers at least two days prior. There will be a few flowers and flower buds available to monarch butterflies during the next 2-3 weeks, but bank-full flow will occur beginning June 2nd which will increase milkweed stem growth and production of flower buds/flowers to support monarch butterflies using this corridor. Water delivery to support interstate/international compact agreements and irrigation contracts will have a shortened season during 2022 due to drought across the entire Rio Grande basin.
