Swamp milkweed first sighted today. There are 80+ mature milkweed plants in this native prairie garden. Only one has surfaced today. I have been checking daily. Weather has been cool and rainy for weeks. This week temps could reach 20C.
Earlier in May, Robins made good use of milkweed stalks, stripping the outer silk as nest material.
Chickadees, warblers and yellow finch perch on tall milkweed stalks searching for bugs in the ground.
While moving leaf debris away from milkweed stalks, I found ladybugs and solitary bees moving slowly.
