At 1pm it was 83 degrees F, partly cloudy, strong winds 16mph from the southeast, with 56% humidity. I saw multiple monarchs in our front yard as I worked in the garden. They were nectaring on wildflowers and generally flying about. I observed a male chase a female who was nectaring from a yellow thistle.
It stayed very windy all day and I continued to observe monarchs active throughout the day into evening. There are more males around than females. This is a photo of one of males as he sips nectar from a nourishing thistle.
