Shaw emailed this writer - "I had not seen any Monarchs in Rochester area until today. This morning I was at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge & Montezuma Wetlands Complex and we saw at least 3 Monarchs. All were quite fresh. They were flying about but I did not notice any egg laying. For the most part, milkweed is just pushing out of the ground in the last week or so here; no doubt, they can find the small milkweeds a lot easier than people can. 😊 The Monarchs we saw were in very marshy areas and ditches, and that does describe most of the Montezuma complex.
