Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/31/2022

Number: 1

First monarch caterpillar, 1 x 3rd instar, on common milkweed.

Monarchs - and other butterflies - scarce this year. I have only seen what I have reported. I have only been checking A. incarnata, tuberosa and curassavica for eggs, however, since common is usually the last choice for Monarchs in my garden. Also, I'm not outside each day as long as I have been in previous years, although I have a good view of part of the yard from my office. Still, surprisingly few Monarchs... even driving to and from town, saw none this year, very unusual.
