Monarch Waystation #271 reports seeing a male monarch nectaring in the front yard starting about 6 pm. He favored the many blooms of Purple milkweed available and lingered at each one. I took photos of him between 6 and 6:15 pm, then kept looking out the kitchen window on and off to mark his progress. His colors looked new at first until I looked carefully at my photos and found many "scratches" in the scales on his wings plus 2 bird beak notches in his lower right wing. He was last seen about 7:40 pm flying towards a nearby sycamore tree as light was fading near sunset.
