We counted 13 monarch butterflies today at Google. It was 70 degrees, calm with high cloud cover. Most were flying very low above the milkweed patches as if to smell them. The showy milkweed was in full bloom, covered in aphids and ladybugs. I did see one very small caterpillar, less than a week old on one and several eggs. Though more eggs tucked under leaves on the tropical milkweeds than on the more exposed leaves of the showy.
