An individual monarch was observed nectaring from whorled milkweed flowers on the bank of the Rio Grande about 10:40 am. Unfortunately, it was flighty and I could not focus the camera in time for an image. The Rio is now carrying water from bank-to-bank which will direct butterflies to seek nectar and cover on the banks and overflow areas - prior, until June 2nd, a permanent low-flow channel provided additional habitat/foraging opportunities that are now inundated.
