Observed an adult monarch butterfly flying over field of grasses and wildflowers near a forest edge.
This is now only a handful or so total, for adults sighted this season. It's somewhat sad to see so few adults after seeing hundreds at once around this time of spring three years ago. Though the egg sightings are encouraging and the milkweed, wildflowers, and other wildlife seem to be doing well.
I expect a significant rise in numbers over the following month, based on assumption of good conditions and another generation emerging from eggs laid in the region and right here.
