Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/19/2022

Number: 1

What's going on? I have seen only one monarch all summer and only 8 small caterpillars at a large prairie garden about a mile away. I have more milkweed (common and swamp) than in any previous year. At this time in each of the last 3 years I have had at least 15 chrysalides and 50 or so eggs and/or caterpillars in hampers and ended each of those years having reared about 150 monarchs.

Perhaps the weather has played a part: We have had some days and nights of heavy rains, some very strong winds, and also daily temperature ranges of nearly 50 degrees from lows to highs.
