Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 06/17/2022

Number: 1

Pictured is a monarch butterfly larva, approximately 6mm long probably second instar, on milkweed (common, alcepias syriaca). It's possible this larva is from the same egg on this leaf, previously reported, based on the recent low temperatures and timing.

Also note the fresh clusters of flower buds and on an upper leaf is a triangulosa cobweb spider (Steatoda triangulosa). The large leaf at the bottom of the image also has a monarch egg on its underside.
