Our community recently took out our sidewalks and instead of replacing ours with lawn we put in a roadside meadow. It serves as a pollinator-friendly rain garden and has common and swamp milkweed, clustered mountain mint, evening primrose, purple coneflower, spiderwort, fireworks goldenrod, Joe pye, elderberry, persimmon and many more native plants that bloom throughout the year. Our favorite thing is to see so many pollinators visiting our flowers. Currently the common milkweed is blooming and neighbors wonder where the delightful fragrance is coming from; they’re always surprised when I tell them.
