I surveyed the milkweed patch prepared to manually decrease the milkweed bug population that has decimated any chance of fresh seeds and contributed to the early decline of plants before peak migration has passed During 2020 And last year In 2021,I’d tried topping the plants early July But the assortment of thriving insects still exploded
1 mile away not 1 of the 15 transplants of 4 native milkweeds survived; overwhelmed by hungry insects
But I am pleasantly astonished at the LACK of insect damage and happy with the health of this stand Hopefully the monarch mammas that do find it this year leave eggs that will have a chance to thrive
Still no monarch eggs or cats this year But moths have a laid on 2 plants 10’ apart
