I know there is not a good category for this, but Purple Martins are a migratory bird that you can almost set your clock by. They are excellent chatterbox neighbors that make a great addition to any yard urban or rural. Additionally, they are voracious flying insect eaters. Our first arrived April 5th and the hummingbirds two weeks later. They are a definite precursor to Hummer arrival each year. Ours have fledged about a week and a half ago and are "practicing" for their migration to South America. Other visiting Martins have arrived on our Martin house. I counted @ 20 this morning. Our normal residents are two pair. I suspect that the migration is in progress. I will mark the day ours depart on their journey. There is usually quite a flurry the few days before hand.
