Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/13/2022

Number: 2

10 years ago or longer, to see monarch butterflies and find their larvae, I had to leave our property and search roadsides and areas with milkweed. Then I planted some swamp milkweed and after that, some common milkweed. Since that time, monarchs have found their way to our woodland wetland meadow and ponds every summer.

So, I am regularly treated to their presence. On this day, I was visiting our wetland meadow when I saw a VERY large butterfly flying away. I soon realized what I was seeing, a male monarch taking a female away. They positioned themselves above my head about 15 feet. Of course, I had my camera, knowing that I better, just in case I see a monarch or other interesting critter in the area.
