Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/16/2022

Number: 1

1st instar on Asclepias speciosa at noon today. 81 F, sunny, no wind. The dredging chew marks tipped me off to have a closer look. I checked other plants; found several dredging chew marks, but no more larvae. There were spiders. I have not seen any monarch butterflies this year at this location. The few milkweed plants that came up this year are very small, due to dry winter and spring. In addition, Tussock moth larvae are devouring the milkweed. Very few nectar flowers, except for blanket flower, which I grow in this garden. Monarch Way Station 9418
