It's a damp, overcast morning in Michigan. I was carrying the feeders out early this morning. (I have to bring them in at night or the raccoons will drink the nectar) There were 2 female hummingbirds in the garden, clearly traveling together.
I returned with my coffee and observed 3 different males come into the garden at different times. They all sat on different perchs. They came in from different directions and they all fed at different flowers.
This is far more activity than I normally observe. The photo is Mr. Bub, our resident male, who usually perches in the same spot with his back to me and preens.
With my second cup of coffee, the females returned. It made me wonder if it might be and adult with a juvie. Juveniles usually come into my garden in another week to 10 days, last week of July. This seems early.
I will try to get some photos and keep you posted.
