Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/10/2022

Number: 1

While we have numerous milkweeds blooming in our local area (some are already past their prime and are starting to droop), we have yet to spot any Monarch butterflies.

However, this afternoon I noticed what I am pretty sure is our first Monarch egg. What I do find a bit odd is that there is only this single egg (on this common milkweed, and the several other common and swamp milkweeds nearby). It's been my experience in past years that if we find an egg on a plant, there's typically several others to be found on that plant or others nearby.

In any case, we'll keep an eye on this one and see what develops.

Weather-wise, the past few days have had highs in the lower 80s, lows in the 60s, no precipitation, breezes out of the northeast, and generally fair to partly cloudy skies.
