Having lamented a few days ago our lack of any Monarch Butterfly sightings, we finally spotted our first today at about 10:30 this morning. I only managed to snag one quick shot during what proved to be a very brief sighting. We believe it was a female that had been laying eggs on one of our swamp milkweeds. We'll try to confirm that shortly.
At the time, under mostly sunny skies, the temperature was about 79°F, the dew point was 61°F, the humidity was 54%, there was an increasing breeze (currently about 5 mph) from the west, and the air pressure was steady at 28.61".
