Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/29/2022

Number: 1

I first spotted this monarch caterpillar on an upper leaf of a volunteer common milkweed plant in the shade garden in my front yard on 07/27/2022 and at approximately 32 mm in length, it may be in its 5th instar. Today (07/29/2022), it is about 40 mm in length. Located on the underside of a lower leaf on that same milkweed plant, it is protected from the sun and predators. It is eating the leaf from the outer edge to the stalk. And it seems to have a healthy digestive system.
