Male.
Probably same as since Tuesday.
Friend brought two female monarchs over to release at 12:30 pm. She lives about 2.5 miles south and raised them from eggs laid in her yard.
They eclosed a little over and a little less than 24 hrs before.
I will make separate record for those.
Female was placed on butterfly bush flowers, nectared, and male zoomed in to her within 30 seconds.
They interacted closely for a minute. He flew off, returned and repeated at least three times, eve with us standing a few feet away.
After that he took off to the trees, zoomed around occasionally as we watched her,.
I lost track of her (and the first female which had gone directly into the trees) after about 15 m8nutes.
It is now 3:01. The male is staying in the front yard, mostly hanging but occasionally patrolling & nectaring.
I’ll watch more later to see what happens.
