Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/01/2022

Number: 2

We planted milkweed and our first sighting of these 2 was on 07/01/2022. We had a large butterfly enclosure in house and created an indoor habitat for them using the swamp milkweed plants they were on in our backyard. We are on the southwest side of Chicago. This pair grew perfectly in the enclosure and on July 19 exited their chrysalis and after a few hours of warming themselves outdoors in the sun, we released them successfully. Then, on July 28, another adult Monarch butterly was spotted by me in our backyard. He spent about 15 minutes on our swamp milkweed plant, then departed.
