A lovely female, nectaring on Monarda (native Bee Balm), the first of either gender that I have seen so far this Spring or Summer. I have an amazing pollinator garden out front, so I hope to see more monarchs as the Summer progresses. Last year, I saw a few while the milkweed were blooming, but none this year. I wonder if the forest fires and resultant smoke we had earlier this year (May/June) to the south in NM might have disrupted their travels? A neighbor sighted one monarch a few weeks ago, but I missed it.
