Monarch Egg Sighted

Date: 07/28/2022

Number: 37

I have found MANY eggs in the last month. I take them in as the caterpillars are eaten almost as soon as they hatch! I have witnessed this too many times so now I raise them inside. They like single plants, and young plants close to the ground to lay. they even lay on my seedlings and decimate them! The cats have a better chance of surviving on my potted plants away from the milkweed stand and predators as well. Since most were recently in the pupa stage there were no visiting monarchs as I think the new batch was hatching. Mine just started hatching and now the monarchs are visiting our plants in DROVES. Also, I notice that right after a Monarch lays the egg is it hard to see it until the next day! I have raised 500 caterpillars in the past but before that only saw a few cats on the leaves and one pupa which got eaten the next day. thus I started inside raising. Also, with this drought here I sadly see few healthy milkweed plants around. Im doing my best to water mine.
