Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/01/2022

Number: 5

I am currently raising 2 of these indoors.
Despite 4 kinds of milkweed, and seeing larvae now and then, I have seen zero large caterpillars or chrysalis. I tried raising a number of eggs over the past 2 months but every single caterpillar had died at a young age (stage 2-3 instar.) I have seen a few 1-2 instar larvae, and many holes in the milkweed, they always disappear within 1-2 days of me seeing them.
The stage 1-2 instar dry up when they die, the larger ones stop eating, it appears they may have vomited (or they just regurgitate when the time,) shrivel, turn dark and I find them soft and wet at the bottom of the container.
