7 captive reared monarchs released in my yard: 2 at 12:30 - one male for certain because the male in my yard chased it off - and 5 at 7 pm - at least five were female and one was mated by the male in my yard.
See notes in observations at this same address for July 31 and after - the matings likely are with these captive-raised females, and a captive-raised male (or some other - mine chased a male away on the eve of the 30th) could have supplanted the male who had been in my yard since the previous Tuesday eve.
