Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/06/2022

Number: 1

We have worked hard to create habitat for monarchs. We have a large area of common milkweed, several well established swamp milkweed plants plus a few smaller ones, a couple of butterfly milkweeds, and a tropical milkweed grown as an annual. This is only the second monarch we have seen this summer. The first one was three weeks ago (also reported). I observed this female laying eggs on our swamp milkweed and also found a few eggs on the tropical milkweed. I will report the eggs separately. I didn't find any on the common milkweed, even though that's what we have in the greatest abundance. I'm concerned about the absence of monarchs on our property this year, and I hope this visitor and her offspring will turn this around!
